Are you suggesting that Bolt et al, reports a balanced view, presenting both sides of the argument, on any subject, especially climate change ?
To use your scientists-are-protecting-their-pay-packets analogy,
Bolt is quite clearly dependent on his ratings. He increases his ratings by generating sensationalist semi-accurate stories, appealing to a predominantly right wing conservative audience. I.e. He is giving you what you want to hear. Accuracy and scientific relevance is not a prerequisite for the stories he runs.
