Hi slippin
Talk of muddled logic! There is always a lot of it with this discussion
Stopping or slowing the boat people is not brain science.
If there are not firm policies in place, people and the smugglers will still try, and some will die on the way.
The fault is 100% the current governments because they are the ones in control and the only group that has the power to stop the trade, and the current government includes the independents and the greens which form the ruling party in the country so to point a finger at the conservative side as being party to the problem is infantile.
The politicians will not accept the correct procedure because they will get bad press.
That is the only reason that the boat people still break the laws of Australia.
Stop the money payments and benefits to the boat people, they spend a lot of money travelling to Indonesia let them spend more money to support themselves when they arrive.
Process them within 3 months maximum, if not approved within that time send them back to their last point of departure. This will put pressure on Indonesia to stop them arriving there in the first place.
If they are approved to stay in Australia give them a 5 year duration good behavior visa.
Two strikes and they go back to where they come from.
Economic migrants should not be a burden to the country they intend to settle in
To call them refugees is a furphy, they come here for the benefits that they will receive, and the good life, comparative to the place they come from which that they mucked up before they left
