Pieces,
I'll say this once only and you can argue all you want.
The mining industry plans to expand so rapidly is very unhealthy for our economy and social wellbeing. We are becoming a giant mine for foreign owned companies to take what they want and give back very little. They do not even train apprentices etc. But leave it up to state owned Tafes and other businesses to train, then steel the trained workers from other because they pay more.
The mining tax is an attempt by the government to slow down the boom. Also the carbon tax but that is more to grow non fossil fuel energy.
If you want proof of how pumping money into an ecomomy in an unbalanced way destroys social structure, come live in Perth if you dont already. The agression here is at boiling point, people are angry and stressed and yet we are one of the richest citys in the world. I experience this first hand on a daily basis. Its a nightmare to get a trade to do a job for anyone, service is terrible in most industries.
Rents have doubled in my area in 1 year. House prices are sky high. Families can not find a place to live.
just want to explain another side to this.
Merry Xmas!
