In my humble opinion, Mr Sheldon ran into Qantas like Rambo, shooting from the hip, making lots of noise but offering little in the way of workable solutions.

He probably also beleived that the little irish man Joyce would not stand up and fight. This time, the bully was caught out and now the "pilots" of the union are without a job.

Maybe the unions should offer a job security clause in their employment agreements and a minimum pay increase of 6% per annum.....

Maybe Mr Sheldon has realised that if no one has a job, no one can afford to pay union fees..........

Maybe Mr Sheldon knows that the wild promises he made to his members when this dispute started will not eventuate and some one needs to take the blame......

Maybe Mr Sheldon should fall on his sword.......

IMO it is embrassing to both QAN and the unions that this dispute is where it is today.
