Waterways safe after train derailment (ABC News 24)

The Northern Territory Government says no uranium has been detected in waterways where a train derailed near Katherine last week.

A freight train derailed during flash flooding at the Edith River, spilling 1,200 tonnes of copper concentrate.

A report released by the Environment Department on Wednesday afternoon says small amounts of copper, zinc and aluminium have been detected at each of the four test sites near the derailment.

But the department says they are well below health guidelines for drinking water.

The 20-carriage train derailed north of Katherine in floodwaters caused by ex-Tropical Cyclone Grant.
