The current government is truly terrifying in its mismanagement. And you are right, most, if not all of them would struggle to make middle management in a mid-sized company. There is no rigour or fiscal discipline, or even the slightest understanding of the importance of the wealth generation process. It is all about ideology irrespective of the financial circumstances.

I think Howard's long tenure really weakened the ALP from within. It to a large extent explains why the current crop of ALP politicians are so mediocre and make continually "dumb" policy decisions.

A lot of the brighter people on the "left" side of politics did not choose to be involved in an extended period in opposition when Howard reigned, leaving the second-string hangers on, who make up the current ALP government now.
