Our farmers are protected by government. I remember the big deal importing cheap bananas from Philippines after cyclone Larry destroyed our crops. But as soon as we back on our feet the imports stopped.

I'd say import as much cheap agriculture as possible. Farmers would find alternate employment and maybe receive compensation. Then less water usage for agricultural reasons would benefit the environment.
