Thanks all for the feedback. Thanks Doc for that Niobrara article - its a really good read if anyone wants to understand the Niobrara and its diversity and potential better. In terms of the question I asked about the formation pressure, the following excerpt was the most relevant:
"While the Niobrara is overpressured within Wattenberg, exhibiting gradients of 0.55 to 0.5 psi per foot, pressures decrease to normal at Silo Field.... Because the Niobrara is much oilier in this portion of the play, artificial lift will be needed for sustained production."
As a consequence of TB's email and the additional reading about the pressure characteristics of the Niobrara I'm now much more comfortable about the need to use artificial lift at Defender than I was when it was first announced.
