    Alcoa surprised analysts by forecasting global aluminium demand would grow by 7 per cent this year. Growth of 7 per cent would be more than the annual 6.5 per cent growth needed to meet Alcoa's long-term forecast of a doubling in aluminium demand between 2010 and 2020.
