    It is of no surprise to me that around half of mortgages are for investment properties - given the tax subsidies provided to them.

    In fact why on earth would you want to be a owner-occupier when if it is a investment property the Commonwealth pays half the mortgage for you via negative gearing.

    I know I am taking advantage of this benefit right now.

    What makes it interesting is that the Government in a downturn will have no more money to hand out and at some stage it will be looking to cut back property subsidies - they will be reluctant to do so becasue it will crash the property market (have no doubt about this), but they will have no choice.

    Might be ten years away though so I am rushing to sell now, but will be looking closley for what the Government is doing in this area.
