Re the slower pace of life in Fiji, that's one of the attractions as far as I'm concerned. One of my favourite pastimes is watching the world go by and appreciating the simplicity of life deconstructed. You learn what little it materially takes to live a happy life. We have loved visiting Samoa and Vanuatu and will love Fiji as well.
I think we will heed your advice and opt for a 4 wheel drive. We will have no excuse to leave no stone unturned!
