I remember "Roy of the Rovers" a soccer-playing character in a childhood comic - "the Tiger".
Roy and his dubious pal Blackie (a bit like Ginger with Biggles) were often playing with one another in la belle Francais and Yes Yes ("oui oui" was a staple part of their minimalist conversations during the frequent ecstatic yelps,groans and "ooofs" after they achieved their goal if you get my drift.
Being a Tiger reader it was mandatory to be an ignorant oaf which came easily to me so for years I pronounced it "Owee Owee" much to the mirth of "Eagle" readers which was a comic for educated nerds.
