As the dispossessed Indigenous people, Aboriginal folk occupy a unique place in Australian society. They've been hunted, massacred and mistreated in ways which are beyond the comprehension of modern Australians. Much of it is so disgusting it is happily swept under the carpet so that the average Joe never has to contemplate it. If it comes on TV you probably switch the channel and see how the crickets going.
But none of this makes it less real for them.
As the victims of genocide, their pain will take many generations to dissipate. This is the reality of all Peoples affected by genocide (American Indian, Jews, Cambodians). Particularly, as their culture and spiritual life has been overwhelmed/ decimated and ,as a whole, they are economically disadvantaged. It takes time to heal old wounds.
Now back to the cricket.
