Which of these is extraordinary to you, Hanrahan, and why:

The atmosphere contains greenhouse gases, which absorb IR radiation.

Greenhouse gases keep the earth warm. More of them make the earth warmer.

    CO2 is a greenhouse gas.

By burning fossil fuels we have increased the amount of atmospheric CO2 by almost 40% over the past several decades.

The burning of fossil fuels with the increase in greenhouse gases is the main reason why the average global surface temperature is rising.

Significant changes in global temperatures have changed climates in the past and there is no reason to think it won't do the same in the future.

The current increase in CO2 is happening much faster than any in the entire Holocene an probably as fast as almost any time in earth's history.

The current level of CO2 is higher than at any time in the past 800,000 years at least.

As temperatures rise more ice melts.

As ice melts the melted water will eventually flow into the oceans.

As temperatures rise, the hydrological cycle is affected.

As the ocean absorbs more CO2 it makes it more acidic.

    Thanks.
