QC ready to help Corby's new team

A Perth QC says Schapelle Corby's sacked Indonesian legal team is yesterday's news and he will not engage in a war of words with the dumped lawyers.

The convicted Bali drug smuggler sacked her Indonesian lawyers yesterday and hired a new team headed by Indonesian-based German lawyer Walter Tonetto.

Dumped legal team Lily Lubis and Vasu Rasiah have pointed the finger at Perth QC Mark Trowell, who recently became involved in the case at the suggestion of the Federal Government.

Mr Trowell says he is still willing to assist in the case if needed.

"We stand ready to help now as we always have, but we'll respect whatever decision he [Mr Tonetto] and Schapelle Corby make," he said.

Mr Trowell accused the sacked lawyers of suggesting the judges hearing Corby's appeal could be bribed, an allegation they reject.

He will not say if the decision was made on his advice.

"I'm not interested in engaging in a war of words with Vasu, they're yesterday's news," he said.

"It's totally unhelpful to her to dwell on the past.

"The decision has been made, the old team is sacked, the new team are in place."

Mr Rasiah says the allegation is a lie and Mr Trowell does not deserve to be a QC.
