re: wall fly - melb rally stretches back to trades The argument that we have to compete with other countries is a poor one and not one I would run with. If we all keep competing we will end up like the Japanese spending our lives working and getting a week or 2 holidays a year. If it gets like that I'd rather live on a beach and eat seafood, who needs all the stress and to miss all the garbage on TV, who really needs to work 30 years just to own the house they live in, I think people need to take a step back and spend more time with their family rather that trying to get more and more money. The same goes for the government, instead of running the country as if they were running a business they should be looking after our lifestyle. The only reason Liberals were voted back in was from the greed of its electors who were worried about the lies fed to them such as rising interest rates and the wealth they had gotten from their properties in the last few years.
As to Rostered days off a lot of large corporations employ them giving their personeel a day off to pay bills etc during the working week, to get this luxury people work an extra half hour a day and after a fortnight they have accrued 1 extra day off.
In Canada the employer of a lot of firms keeps about 14% of the workers pay every year in an account then after 7 years you get a year off paid leave, a great idea.
Maybe if these large corporations looked at profit sharing schemes such as giving 5% of all profits made back to their employees they would get more loyalty and a more profitable and better run company, why is it only executives get profit sharing and shareholders?
The pay rates of those running large companies is ridiculous but the governemnt turns a blind eye, it turns a blind eye to the charges banks lay on us, it lets tax dodges such as negative gearing stay in place at the cost of the poor, there are many more examples that the governemnt could look into if they were so worried about being competitive.
Problem with Austalia is its becoming full of selfish money hungry pigs who dont want to look after their mates but would rather screw them for a few extra cents.
If they want more profitibality do something about the ridiculous OH&S garbage thats in place and sort out the litigation problems.
Soon we will be all working 7 days a week 12 hours a day with kids always in childcare. We'll be living in a bubble cause we cant do our jobs due to the mass of paper work from OH&S and the litigation that occurs if its not done.
If you dont do your 12 hour days you'll be sacked at a whim and get no redundancy payment the next greedy pig will take your job, cheap foreign labour will be brought in if they cant find anyone.
Its not the blue collar workers who have caused all this, its the white collared workers imo.
Life is not all about work and money and planning, its about spending good times with friends and family and having enough money to pay the bills and put food on the table, not having 3 cars and 2 houses and a boat.
Id like to see industrial action and long strikes in place, sure people will go broke cause they cant pay all their loans off but thats their own fault from greed. Maybe once they get some time off they will realise there is a bit more to life than work.
whinge whinge whinge
