"Israel is the promised land - are you serious??? Couldn't God do a bit better than that sorry wasteland"?
And I say, If so, why has the whole world for centuries been so obsessed by this little piece of wasteland?
Personally, we believe god gave us the best, that's why we have nurtured our dream for thousands of years, before Christianity, before Islam.
If we thought it was a sorry piece of wasteland we wouldn't have survived for as long as we have. Our hopes are centred only around that sorry piece of wasteland, nothing else.
We have one capital and that's Jerusalem. It is not number 3 on our list, it is not number 2. It is not even number 1.
It is the only one.
And for the record the only time that (shitty .... French Ambassador quote) area was a sorry piece of wasteland, was only when it was not a Jewish run country.
And that we can thank the Romans, the Assyrians, the Greeks, the Muslims, the Ottomans etc .
Mark Twain was correct when he described it the way that he did at the time that he did.
But we regard Israel as the crown and Jerusalem as it's jewell or the diamond in the crown. The only jewell! (Jew-ell... nice play on a word) Before a jewell/diamond in worth anything, the dirt has to be washed off, then polished, then cut. To a trained eye, the value of a jewell even in it's unpolished state would be noticeable.
Thankfully Jews have the trained eye.
What to you in a desolate piece of wasteland, to us is sheer beauty. The Jews returned, cleaned the dirt off, polished the stone (Israel) and that's it.
I don't expect you to understand. You don't have the trained eye to appreciate it's beauty nor the capacity to respect the legacy that we were given.
