easiest way for all involved is to send two seperate cheques.
one for your entitlement and one for any additional you are after.
this ensures you will at worst get your entitlemnt
you wouldnt want them to get confused and you miss out all together.(as the amount doesnt line up with your entitlement and it all gets to hard for them)
they should contact you in any event, to if either send back the cheque that was for over and above your entitlement.
