The costs as pointed out by EL can be deceptive. WSA reports a basic C1 cost, which excludes operating costs, indirect costs and financing costs. The interest, royalty and the sustaining capital costs for the mines are a killer :( All up, we're probably looking at a cost of about $6/lb of nickel. The sale price of the nickel averaged $8.5/lb last half, and this half has so far averaged $9.2/lb, which equates to about a 30% increase in net profit from the last half.
Most other nickel miners would be struggling at the current nickel price, I can't imagine the nickel price staying under $10/lb for too much longer.
