SSkim,
Term deposits (in my opinion) work out to be the simplest, safest and most convenient without chasing your tail for a slight bit extra.
Often moving it around isn't always simple and some that offer a slightly higher interest rate probably have a catch.
Another (hate) thing to consider when shifting money to a new banking institution for the first time is the endless paper work that is required to carry out this function.
One would think that in this day and age one institution could advise another institution that you meet all the required standards / criteria without all the ongoing b.s.
Each time you move money to a new account, as well as a myriad of things to provide and do, you need to supply a copy of the deed.
Anyway, I think it was Lindso who posted something like the higher the rate the higher the risk in many cases.
At the moment the very best rate I have been able to get is 5.85% for a large sum and then again, they would give me the same for a small sum of money.
