re: howard rushes ir tv ad's - at our expense! Good day Alan thought you must have carked it.

You are probably right but he has produced the goods on most issues. One problem of course is that many of our pollies are lawyers and we all know that their stock in trade is lying (generally for clients). Probably not an easy habit to break.

Beazley was an academic but given his recent performances has obviously learnt this aspect of a politician’s craft very well from the lawyers.

I think misrepresentation is practiced by all tiers of government, right down to the local level. Noticed that the ACTU, also trying to get into the act, has got off to a flying start with some of its own porkies.

The bottom line for me is that the electorate will tolerate a bit of lying from its pollies if it’s in a "good" cause. At present that "good" cause is the general prosperity it enjoys and which Howard makes sure gets attributed to his government.

You could call me a happy cynic who has a fairly pessimistic view of the chance of finding perfection in human nature. (even on this squeaky clean forum)
