That's true, but one side can be more aggressive than the other. Every trade has a buyer and a seller, but if I suddenly popped up and bought two millions shares you'd say "Wow, there was some serious buying going on" and if I jumped in and suddenly sold two million shares (not that I have that many to sell) you'd see the action and say "Wow, that was some pretty serious selling", even though in both cases the number being bought and sold would be the same. There's a difference which is often pretty obvious, especially if the number is large relative to the depth, and you see the buy:sell ratio change.
