my knowledge in this sector is mainly the result of too long at Uni in the 80's and 90's deciding what I wanted to do with my life. The technological advances since then have been enormous (e.g. we'd DNA sequence on gels and be very happy with 2-300 base pairs in a week - now the whole human genome of 3 billion bp can be sequenced in 2 days by a machine) and it gets harder to keep up with each passing year. Am now on the end consumer side so have some understanding of how critical consistency of lab results are. This, I think, is where the hold-up is - exceptionally high sensitivity is actually not very useful for the majority of biochemical lab tests which typically test in the middle of their dynamic ranges, rather than at one end or the other (e.g. the values you typically get for test X are 10-15 mmol/L, and the test performs perfectly adequately in the range 3-20 mmol/L - the chances of the blood level of X being 0.1 mmol/L is vanishingly unlikely so being able to test that low isn't really going to benefit you). Reliability of results is critical, and if your old test gives reliable results then there is a lower incentive to change it. Therefore, the major incentive to use Mix&Go would be reduced cost, because of improved arrangement of antibodies allowing the use of fewer expensive antibodies per test. But if you've spent a significant period of time standardising your antibody assays with another adhesion product, perhaps with a contract period with that manufacturer and some stockpiles, then you are probably going to be waiting until that contract period and stockpile has expired before going through an exhaustive restandardisation process to ensure reliability and to work out the new normative data (i.e. what is the expected normal range for this new assay). The upside for ADO is that any company that was going to switch to Mix&Go would likely switch all of the assays over, and not just one or two.
My opinion on the timing of any announcements is tempered by the fact that 99% of what is posted on Hotcopper is hot air. A lot of it interesting, but little value as far as investment decisions are concerned. I am hoping for a 2nd quarter announcement like everyone else, but wouldn't bet the house on one.
