Now the hindsight hecklers jeer and mock but their assessment is harsh.

In Australia, policy worked.

The Government did inherit a strong fiscal position, get a leg up from China and its sizeable fiscal stimulus, and enjoyed a deal of luck.

But the Labor Government and the Federal Treasury deserve more credit than they've been getting.

Let's get objective and stop repeating the mantras of the right.
