well spring,
that logic is flawed in my opinion, as you could safely assume:
the poorer man would want the $$ faster for an instant improvement in his quality of life - or even his next meal - or to pay debts he owes.
You could also assume he would lack the contacts or knowledge to fully gauge what he has.
Where as the richer man could afford to wait, engage those with expertise and experience and hold for the best offer or even wait for the next trend higher in gold... or for the poor man to die and take his gold for peanuts...
