re: party time....yellowcake Kalms, the smarter communities have also bought the pub, called "clubs" which have been granted limited liquor licences.

And there are the motels, shopping centres, barge operators(eg Darwin th he Tiwi Islands), commercial airlines (eg Gove and Nhukkur) that also own helicopters used by exploration companies) . These are long term enterprises bought from royalties(rate is set by the Feds as all minerals belong to the Crown) and despite this, mining applications are still rejected by the Federal Government on the advice of the land councils. On grounds other than economi benefit.

The Commonwealth legislation is the rejecting power, not NT legislation. The Commonwealth has extended this power to all other states through its Native Title Act that Laramide faces in Qld and other companies have to contend with in SA, NSW, Tas, and WA where the mineral lies on Aboriginal claimed or interest land. You cannot expect that these powers will be watered down or changed.

The NTG has the power on non-Aboriginal land in the NT, as other states do on similarly titled land in their own state. but all are constrained by their national party policy. And there are still only three mines nationally although SA is wavering atm..

Every state/teritory govt, and the fed govt faces the issue of intense anti-uranium public attitudes and concerns. To test this, try relocating Lucas Heights or constructing a nuclear waste dump in your own state. And is there any proposal for nuclear power in Australia? No.

This may change following a wider national community debate, yet to happen, that has to be from all parties not just mining interests. There does seem to be support for change from some on the greenhouse gas issue, but again it is mining interests promulgating this, not the environmental mob. That is, there is a push to reduce fossil fuel emissions but not necessarily through the use of uranium. Certainly people seem to agree on natural gas over burning oil and coal. Also, the cry on diminishing oil reserves may prove a furphy with new technologies(this should move Oly and others to the drafting board). Nevertheless the concern over the dangers of nuclear technology, while still an obstacle, has somewhat decreased but its excessive cost remains a problem for nuclear power for the present.(It does seem that the non-signatories to the greenhouse pact are the proponents of uranium fuel)

Sorry about the rave and it will certainly provide entertainment if not enlightenment. Hopefully we will all meet at next years CMR AGM, if not ARU's. Failing that, at the opening of CMR' Browns Oxide Mine for a beer at Batchelor early next year. You and Oly to Darwin? (If I am not sent to Coventry by sharepunters, mining companies and my stockbroker. :-) )

    Meanwhile I remain a holder of 200,000 ARU fpo's, 220,000+ CMR's, 105,000 PTS(the forgotten U hopeful).
