Certainly has pro's and con's, though sometimes alot will depend on the landlord. Some years ago my old man had a tenant for five years that he basically let rent the place 20% below market because she was an excellent tenant and he didn't want to raise her rent.
Certainly if renting is much cheaper than buying the equivalent (which it is right now) it makes sense from an investment perspective.
