This is probably because before Joh got in the previous Labor party rigged all the boundaries and created an enormous gerrymander.
When Joh got in he thought that it was Christmas because he could now use it to his advantage and this helped keep him in power for so long to the chagrin of the labor party who dreamt it up for themselves.
Maybe it is still effecting the system remember the Labor party have had control for the last 20 years so maybe it is history repeating itself
