We are renting in Subiaco in Perth and have been doing so for three years. The area attracts a lot of renters like my family who are involved in the mining/oil/gas industry.
We are paying $1000 pwk to rent a house which would cost about 1.5 million to buy. Three years ago we moved in at $750.00 pwk.The yield at either price is not great comparative to other assets and the opportunity cost of lost additional yield if money was invested elsewhere is dependent upon capital gains which as an ex valuer I cannot see happening to an extent which would make the poor yield worthwhile.
