    Yes it is not as bad as you make it out to be. Yes there will be less jobs in this case - but other jobs will be created elsewhere in the economy and some people will have to adapt if they aren't in their current area. As for your half price comment reality is the private sector will have to pay similar if rates to the public - the biggest difference is the job will be done with a few less staff and some of the chronic waste that is usually engendered by government agencies will be reduced.

    The other thing to consider is the fact that these people will not be just turfed out overnight it will happen over a number of months/years and anyone in a permanent role will get a redundancy payment so it gives them a bit of breathing room.
