Well when my son was on the way I just went to one of those baby names sites on the web and went through the names from a to z and just read what was said about the name ie its origin/meaning listed the names we liked initially. Then it was what would the name sound like i.e. combination of First name and last name. We decided right off the bat that my son would have my middle name. We also wanted to do our best at choosing a name that couldn't easily be made fun of or the initial combinations wouldn't result in something that could be made fun of. After all the kids on the playground can be mean.
In the end we chose the name Fletcher for his first name (or more commonly known as Fletch) - it is not a common first name but is is strong and not what I would consider unusual or ridiculous. It is upto people to name their kids but personally I don't like kids being named Apple or something weird as it is the child that has to live with the name.
