Please correct me if I'm wrong, this is my understanding of the news, (Civil War and Coup)

Why and What?
The army said it had staged its coup because the campaign against the Tuareg rebels had been poorly run.

Once the coup happened, the rebels took advantage of the military and government disarray and started to capture towns in northern Mali (which was fairly non-violent).

The Good, or at least, the not so bad:
Tuareg Rebels are only interested in the north part of Mali. They want to form their own country. They have been capturing towns in the northern part but have stated no interests in the capital or the southern parts. RSG is in the south of Mali.

Coup leader, Capt Sanogo, said he would consult local political forces to set up a transition body "with the aim of organising peaceful, free, open and democratic elections in which we will not take part". (that's what they all say, but I'm hoping it comes true sooner than later)

The Bad
The regional leaders have begun economic sanctions against the Military Junta (the Coup government). All borders are closed, the country's account in the regional bank has been frozen. Gas stations could run dry in a week. No idea what all this means for RSG.
