re: Ann: Tenerife Magnetotelluric (MT) Survey... sorry butcherboy, but it is you, who is way off the mark. some government department has worked out the cost of carbon abatement, for a few schemes - and from memory solar schemes cost a few hundred dollars, for each ton of carbon abatement.

a few years ago, when people (including watso), believed in the doom and gloom of al gore, then it was a vote catching thing, to promote solar/ wind etc - with subsidies and high feed in tariffs.. that was all part of a "feel good type thingy" - but the reality is, that somebody has to pay for it - and in a way, it was nothing more than middle class welfare.

watso lives in a riverside, upmarket suburb - and there are plenty of people, in the suburb, with solar panels (subsidized installation, and high feed in tariffs - ok, the feed in tarrif is being reduced) - but watso wonders how many people in balga and koondoola, or girrawheen (the kgb in west australia) have solar panels??? - but they are also people who have to pay higher charges, so that the electricity distributer can pay the feed in tariffs.

from the mae thread, it seems that gas in america (the united states of america) is at a 10 year low..

"Gas prices in the US continue to be at near 10 year lows.
Rocky mountains gas hit $1.93 per mmcf"

without double checking, but in the back of watso's mind, it could have been $8 per mmcf, a few years ago - even if it was half the price,it would not matter - but that was at the height of the global warming scare.

gas is cheap, so who is really interested in solar panels, or wind, or whatever, the usa, is still the largest economy in the world, and if they have cheap gas, then it is a waste of time, for other economies (ie countries), to use more expensive energy.

watso was brought up in a religious family (the minimum was three prayers per day, plus one bible reading - the maximum was 4 prayers per day, and two bible readings) - and in the end, watso worked out, that it was all rubbish.

sadly bb, you seem to have an evangelical zeal about this greenie renewable stuff - which is not accepted by the populace - sure it will happen one day - but not in your lifetime. the real problem is population growth

kevin rudd was all for the kyoto protocol - cutting green house emissions etc - yet, he lived a lavish lifestyle - but that is the way it always is - even in communist russia, the people at the top of the party had the best lives - yet exhorted the plebs to work harder for socialism.

wow - that indian guy who is the head of the ipcc - sure leads a lavish lifestyle - but preaches restraint for everybody else.

watso rides a bike, but encourages everyone else, to get on a plane, and fly all over the place - when it is affordable. in the overall scheme of things, it does not matter if aviation fuels are depleted today, or in one hundred years time
