I agree Matt,chinese steel is the pits i have heard of some horror stories about it failing.I think the best one is WIN stadium at wollogong ,built by the lowest bidder and a storm came through after completion and tore it apart.With Whyalla you are 100% right i think its now the case of how to shut it down as cheaply as possible.Steelmaking now will will be done at sydney steel mill and laverton mill.Both are electric arc furnaces and by memory a whole lot cheaper to run the downside is the steel grades are only a very narrow range.
