I think the cost differential is mainly due to the infrastructure already being in place in the US as noted in an article in The Australian yeterday.On top of having a cheap source of gas, US LNG plants are 40-50 per cent cheaper to build than a new project in Australia.
An existing pipeline network takes the gas to new plants, and disused LNG import terminals provide storage and wharf infrastructure.
