Syrah Resources (ASX:SYR) hopes to begin active anode material (AAM) production at its 11.25ktpa AAM facility in Vidalia, Louisiana by the end of January.

The company has almost completed all commissioning processes across the facility, including key milling, purification, and furnace process areas and equipment. In saying that, the purification area has encountered challenges with its press filtration system.

Also, the weather in Vidalia next week is predicted to experience unusually below-freezing temperatures.

To address the challenges, Syrah’s team is actively collaborating with its vendors to safely complete the wet commissioning of the purification area, leveraging the forecasted improvement in weather at Vidalia after next week.

Since October 2023, Syrah has been generating unrefined spherical graphite from the initial milling zone to establish a stockpile of precursor value-added material in preparation for the operational readiness of the purification and furnace areas.

The heating cycle for the first furnace line commenced early this month to prepare for the carbonisation of pitch-coated purified spherical graphite, with wet commissioning and the production of finished AAM products anticipated to follow soon.

SYR shares were up 8.57 per cent, trading at 57 cents at 11:35 am AEDT.
