Lucapa Diamond Company (LOM) and its partners have recovered 36 diamonds from two Lulo kimberlite bulk samples.
Lucapa, alongside partners Endiama and Rosas & Petalas, recovered 23 diamonds from a 365-cubic-metre bulk sample taken from kimberlite L164.
The total weight of the finding came to 16.32 carats, with a grade of 4.47 carats per 100 cubic metres — the highest grade ever recovered from a bulk sample at Lulo.
Of these, the company’s best finding was a 2.38 carat diamond, which the company said was “very encouraging” for an early stage, small sample.
This is the second sample processed from kimberlite L164, with the area now targeted for follow-up work.
Meanwhile, 13 diamonds were also recovered from a 902-cubic-metre bulk sample from kimberlite L056, boasting a total weight of 7.85 carats, with a grade of 0.87 carats per 100 cubic metres.
The sample location was positioned within the Cacuilo flood plain, which Lucapa explained made it difficult to excavate in the wet season.
The company said a further sample from the kimberlite had been planned and would be processed once ground conditions allowed.
Lucapa Diamond Company shares were down 4.65 per cent to 4.1 cents at 1:22 pm AEDT.
