Australian Strategic Materials (ASM) has appointed Rowena Smith as its newest Managing Director.
Ms Smith has more than 30 years of experience in different senior roles including strategy, commercial, operations, and ESG, and she was most recently South32’s (S32) Chief Sustainability Officer and Vice President, Supply.
ASM Chair Ian Gandel said the move was a “natural progression” following Ms Smith’s appointment as CEO back in July 2022.
“Since Rowena became CEO last year, she has led the company through a successful capital raising, the commencement of the EPC definition work for the Dubbo project and the first sale and delivery of product from the Korean Metals Plant,” he said.
“These activities have placed ASM in a strong position for 2023, as we progress our Dubbo project and ramp-up of the Korean Metals Plant.”
Ms Smith has also held roles with Rio Tinto (RIO) and BHP Group (BHP) for Nickel West, including as Head of Resource Planning & Development and Projects, Manager of Strategy and Acquisitions, and General Manager of the Kwinana Nickel Refinery.
Mr Gandel said the appointment supported ASM’s strategic direction as it aimed to build on its status as a global rare earths and critical minerals business.
Shares in AMS were up 2.56 per cent and trading at $1.60 at 11:57 am AEDT.
