Great Western Exploration (GTE) has completed phase one drilling at its Firebird gold project in Western Australia.

The Firebird Gold Project is located within the Youanmi Greenstone Belt and is comprised of its own GTE tenure and the adjacent Great Western Dynamic Metals (DYM) joint venture.

Phase one of the program involved a total of 3040 metres of aircore drilling to define gold mineralisation suitable for targeted, follow-up reverse circulation (RC) work.

The drilling intersected Archean Greenstone mafic, volcanic sediment and siltstone-shale sedimentary sap-rocks.

GTE reported the drilling production was “significantly higher” than anticipated, and the program was completed earlier than expected, due to the highly oxidised saprolite weathering profile intersected in all holes.

Great Western expects to receive assay results from the program in four to eight weeks.

GTE was down 2.38 per cent and trading at 4.1 cents at 1:10 pm AEST.
