Galan Lithium (GLN) has been granted the initial permits for phase one development at its Hombre Muerto West (HMW) lithium brine project in Argentina.

The company was granted the permits by the Mines Department Minister on Friday, Argentine time.

The permits allows for pre-construction activities to commence, including the commissioning of a 250-man campsite, the removal of top-soil, and preliminary testing activities.

Upon the completion of these activities, the company will accelerate the construction of ponds as part of its phase one activities.

A definitive feasibility study has been planned over two phases, with the initial phase focused on the production of a lithium chloride concentrate.

Optimisation work will culminate in the release of a phase two DFS in August or September later this year, and address a production rate of 20 thousand tonnes of lithium concentrate equivalent per year.

Galan Managing Director Juan Pablo Vargas de la Vega thanked the Government of the Catamarca Province in Argentina for their support.

“They have been both professional and committed through the whole approval process, and this next development phase of the HMW project will also continue Galan’s proud engagement of local contractors and communities within the Catamarca province,” he said.

“These are exciting times for Galan and its shareholders as we strive to get the HMW project into its initial production phase.”
