St George Mining (SGQ) has intersected a wide zone with multiple pegmatites at its Mt Alexander project in Western Australia.

Assays from the company’s Manta prospect intersected a continuous pegmatite interval extending 120.8 metres, which SGQ believes could represent the distal part of a zoned lithium-bearing system.

St George Mining Executive Chair John Prineas said the results were what the company needed for large mineral deposits.

“Most encouraging is the very thick 120.8-metre, flat-lying and locally fractionated zone of pegmatites intersected in hole MAD213 at the Manta prospect, approximately nine kilometres north of the Jailbreak lithium prospect,” he said.

“The results for MAD213 confirm that large-scale pegmatite intrusions have occurred, and they are showing signs of prospectivity for lithium.

“It is now down to identifying the more fractionated lithium-caesium-tantalum (LCT) zone within the pegmatite-hosted mineral system.”

The large thick-lying pegmatite at Manta is believed to be a strong, 1000-metre diameter circular feature. Further drilling and geophysics are being planned to assess the wider potential for lithium-bearing pegmatites around Manta.

Additionally, the company reported it was encouraged by the recent assays from drilling conducted at its Jailbreak prospect, which confirmed the presence of multiple lithium-bearing pegmatites at a peak value of 1.28 per cent lithium oxide.

St Geroge has identified lithium-bearing pegmatites by drilling across a two-kilometre strike of pegmatite corridor. The company holds a further 13-kilometre-long part of the corridor that’s yet to be tested.

SGQ shares were down 4.65 per cent, trading at 4.1 cents at 2:30 pm AEST.
