EcoGraf (EGR) announced its patent application – “Method of Producing Purified Graphite” – has been granted by the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

The company noted it was an “important” step toward the commercialisation of its HFfree technology, with the patent protected until May 2041.

EcoGraf’s HFfree purification technology works by upgrading flake graphite to produce 99.95 per cent C-high performance battery anode material for electric vehicle battery and anode manufacturers in Asia, Europe and North America.

The purification technology was developed by the company in Australia in 2017 and has since been refined through extensive testing and analysis across global markets.

Under EGR’s Patent Convention Treaty (PCT) filing, patent submissions have been made in “key” battery manufacturing hubs, including Europe, Korea, Malaysia, Vietnam, East Africa, South Africa, and Australia.

EGR is currently in discussion with lithium-ion battery and EV manufacturers, as well as supply chain participants, and is complying with US Treasury IRA guidance on clean vehicle credit criteria.

The company’s purification method is an alternative technology for manufacturers of battery anode material used in lithium-ion batteries, and EGR’s patent protects the use of the technology in lithium-ion battery anode recycling.

Battery recycling is now recognised as an important part of the transition to clean energy, with requirements increasing throughout Europe and the US.

EGR shares were up 9.68 per cent, trading at 17 cents at 10:59 am AEST.
