Kingsland Minerals (KNG) has announced successful initial petrographic analysis, demonstrating that Leliyn graphite can be used for lithium-ion batteries.

Graphite from the company’s project in the Northern Territory exhibits components of fine, medium, and coarse graphite flake sizes of up to 150 microns – suitable for batteries.

The company confirmed that these initial results represent a major milestone in de-risking its pathway to development.

The analysis focused on the first two diamond drillhole intercepts, assaying 132 metres of 8.7 per cent total graphite concentrate (TGC) from the surface. This included 94 metres at 10.8 per cent TGC from a depth of 31 metres.

Another drillhole assayed 126 metres at 7.6 per cent TGC from a depth of 52 metres, including 53 metres at 11.1 per cent TGC from 117 metres.

The company aims to use the recent diamond drilling samples, including the bonanza intersection of 206 metres at 10 per cent TGC, for further testwork.

“We are rapidly progressing the maiden mineral resource estimate at Leilyn where mineralisation has been defined over a five-kilometre strike within a 20-kilometre-long graphitic schist,” KNG Managing Director Richard Maddocks said.

“In parallel, we plan to progress metallurgical flotation test work…Leliyn is rapidly emerging as a globally significant high-grade, massive-scale graphite deposit with favourable characteristics located in the tier-one jurisdiction of the Northern Territory.”

The company has scheduled a maiden mineral resource estimate for release in the first quarter of the 2024 calendar year.

KNG shares last traded at 27.5 cents.
