AML3D (AL3) has received a $600,000 order to supply a circa one-tonne prototype component to the US Navy for its ongoing submarine program.

Th company will provide a nickel-aluminum-bronze (NAB) component to support the program, using the its proprietary ARCEMY 3D metal printing technology.

BlueForge Alliance, a nonprofit, neutral integrator supporting the strengthening of the US Navy’s Submarine Industrial Base, has approved the deal.

AML3D considers the order a milestone for its scale-up strategy, allowing it to advance as a point-of-need manufacturing technology solution for supply chains within the US Navy’s submarine program.

The deal follows a recent $2.02 million contract to develop and metal 3D print a complex, high-demand, non-safety-critical, replacement NAB component used in US Navy submarines.

“This order is another opportunity to demonstrate AML3D’s cost-effective, high-efficiency, high-quality, additive manufacturing technology,” AL3 Interim CEO Sean Ebert said.

“It is also a great opportunity to demonstrate the key role large-scale ARCEMY systems can play within the US Defence sector as the point of need manufacturing solutions with the potential to solve supply chain challenges for the US Navy.”

The US is the largest additive manufacturing market worldwide and AML3D’s most important growth market.

The manufacturing cycle for the new prototype component is expected to run for 22-24 weeks at AML3D’s facility in South Australia.
