ASX Market Open: Local bourse to rise 0.5%+ and test new record | 17 Sept 2024

Good Morning and welcome to the second day of the week.

The ASX200 is set to climb over half a percent according to futures around 7.45AM Sydney time.

US markets ended mixed but mostly positive overnight; a drop in Apple left the NASDAQ flattish red while a surge in Intel pushed the Dow to a new high. The S&P500 continues to creep towards its own fresh record.

Looking at the ASX, our local futures market predicts the bourse down under will also hit a record high today, with the market set to it 8,168pts – above and beyond the existing intraday high of 8,148pts.

In forex, the Aussie is buying 68 cents of the greenback.

Talking of the greenback, let’s look at commodities.

Iron ore is commanding just shy of $92 per tonne in Singapore,

A barrel of Brent Crude will put you back just under $73 dollars,

Gold is fetching $2,582 per ounce, and,

US natgas $2.40 a gigajoule.

That’s Market Open, I’m Jonathon Davidson, we’ll be with you later for a trading update.
