HotCopper Highlights Week 26: Droneshield 2.0; Trigg re-jig & Virgin

27 Jun 2025 14:17 (AEST)

Good Afternoon and welcome to HotCopper Highlights for the end of Week 26, I’m Jon Davidson. In this segment, the stocks you were watching and discussing most this week, let’s get into it starting with the most viewed.

Trigg Minerals made the list as it first made plans to boost antimony exposure, and then appointed an Ex-US army chief. That got traders salivating over the potential for a pivot into defence metals, the key here is that Trigg’s in the US, and Trump is firmly pro-defence.

Elsewhere, Ovanti caught eyes, it too on an appointment – this time, Buy Now Pay Later player Zip’s US Head of Enterprise Peter Maher was appointed as the CEO of Ovanti. The thesis here is clear, that Maher’s acumen gained at Zip could help Ovanti’s own BNPL aspirations.

Finally, on Friday, Invictus caught a lot of eyes on a much-awaited update on its gas project in Zimbabwe that has now faced years of delays both technical and those related to sovereign risk, a common trend of doing business in Africa. While the company at least updated the market, many Invictus watchers asked why preliminary work still isn’t complete. Regardless, the stock expects to spud a well in the second calendar half.

So what of the most discussed?

Droneshield easily stole the crown this week as the stock soared above the $2.00 per share mark driven by a synthesis of the Iran-Israeli war thematic, and then, the company inked a $60M dollar deal with a military customer in Europe. Still, the market cap to revenue gap will perhaps be enough to get short sellers circling once again.

Elsewhere, Virgin’s re-listing on the ASX after a 5 year hiatus following its COVID-era bankruptcy caught attention, especially because the company has been warmly embraced by investors on its return. The real winner in the room might be Bain Capital, the private equity player who brought it back to market and who will ultimately sell off its stake eventually. Maybe set some stop losses.

Finally, Orthocell generated chatter on Friday as its nerve repair product was used in a US-based surgery for the first time, though, this led some to question whether the company’s progress was desirable with one singular surgery to boast to date.

That’s HotCopper Highlights for this week, I’m Jon Davidson, have a great weekend and we’ll see you on Monday.
