Investor education equals superior returns

“Investor education can lead to superior returns”. As the founder of The Stock Network, Lel Smits is determined to elevate investor education for all Aussie investors.

I caught up with Lel to talk all things investor education, and why investor education is a great activity for rookie and expert investors alike.

What is investor education?

Investor education is about building the knowledge, confidence and really the decision-making skills that investors need to take control of their financial future. “When you build your investor education, you really have the ability to understand risks, rights and responsibilities, all the things that come with investing responsibly in shares and, of course, other assets” said Lel.

Does investor education equal superior returns?

Lel highlights the direct relationship between investor education and superior returns, and she loves the quote: “investment pays the best dividends.”

Lel explains why investor education is much more than listening to a mate or an Uber driver. “It’s actually taking a very serious and structured approach to seeking out the right, correct, compliant information, going to the source, and treating your education as an ongoing passion and a project to improve your returns” she said.

Where are some fantastic free resources?

Credibility is key when it comes to resources, according to Lel. She rates the ASX highly as a credible resource: “The ASX has many independent educational resources. Even when it comes to actually educating yourself about the companies themselves, you’d be amazed how much information companies themselves have on their website” said Lel.

Lel also mentions that whilst the landscape of investor education is changing, AI cannot yet replicate the level of education provided by humans.

In a nutshell, Lel is a champion of investor education and strongly believes it delivers superior returns!
