Some good points here.
The British went into WW1 with a highly trained cavalry force that they had used in the Crimea. Unfortunately the technology had moved on artillary and machine guns. The huge investment in horses and sabres was a waste.
Submarines are the same. Putting a lot of sailors in a diesel powered tube is just silly. Do we really think they are going to sneak to a few hundred metres from the enemy and torpedo them. Ha Ha Ha.
The only reason we are talking about it is an exercise in Pork barreling in Adelaide.
a)Do we really want subs when technology has moved onto unmanned drones.
b)If we want them lets buy them cheaper and better from overseas.
c) If we want them lets get the real thing not diesels. War is serious it isn't philosophical tiddliwinks.
