agrewith onshow - usually pretty standard - especially as they don't know what they are going to use it for yet - patent can only be tested after the use has been invented.
petesherl - it's pretty simple - while PYC has been quick to report the total value of the deals almost none of those milestones and payments are guaranteed so from the big pharma point of view - why not sign? It costs a few million over the next year or 2 and if it works and patents apply then you have access at an agreed cost - if it doesn't work or the patents are weak then you might get away with paying nothing. These guys do it all the time and it is there big strength - all over the world there are PYC's madly discovering and experimenting and the nig pharmas take on option like this on all the good prospects. It's heaps cheaper than a massive team of internal science bods with group think.
