    What Woolworths Everyday Rewards collects:

Name, address, contact details, gender, household details such as ages of family members, information about linked credit cards, and details of what you've purchased, information about purchases is used to target offers and to stock the store.

    What Coles FlyBuys collects:

Name, address, contact details, gender, DOB, credit cards linked to Flybuys, ages of family members, number of cars, type of insurance, pets, alcohol consumption, whether people shop on line.

Last month, Coles upped the ante by mailing out 16 million revamped FlyBuys cards, with an advertising blitz for the associated 'my 5 discounts.'
Coles would not disclose how many FlyBuys members it had now but previous reports put the figure at about 5 million, with speculation that could double with the new scheme, which incorporated a raft of partners including Target, NAB, Telstra and Webjet.

The world of data analytics is coming of age because people need new competitive advantages. And as those data basis evolve and the sophisticated profiling grows, companies will increasingly operate in the grey area between what their customers find innocuous and what they find intrusive.
